Desiccant Dehumidifier

Commercial & Industrial Desiccant Dehumidification

Fisen’s active desiccant wheel technology maximizes efficiency while offering lower humidity levels than can be achieved with traditional DX or chilled water systems.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are the ideal solution for HVAC applications requiring a humidity ratio of less than 40 grains per pound. Commonly used for corrosion, oxidation, or condensation prevention. Desiccant dehumidification is perfect for processes requiring both low and precise humidity levels such as surgical suites, pharmaceutical production, or the production and storage of moisture-sensitive equipment like electronics.

Whether 100% outdoor air (DOAS), recirculation air, or a mixture of outdoor and return air –          With a Fisen customized or standard desiccant dehumidifier, you can ensure consistent dehumidification without the need for over-cooling.

  How it Works:

Humid entering air passes through a traditional cooling coil to condense and remove moisture from the system. From there, the air enters the desiccant portion of the air handling unit. This is where most of the dehumidification takes place.

A thick desiccant coated wheel is split into two airstreams – building and regenerative. The air to the building passes through the wheel where moisture is transferred from the airstream and bound to the desiccant agent. As the wheel rotates, saturated sections of the wheel containing captured moisture enter the completely segmented regenerative airstream. The regenerative airstream applies hot air to efficiently vaporize and remove the moisture collected by the wheel, which is then exhausted from the unit. As the wheel continues to rotate it is then able to absorb more moisture and start the cycle over again.

Because the regenerative process requires high temperatures, the building air picks up sensible heat as it travels through the desiccant wheel. Therefore, a second cooling coil downstream of desiccant system is employed to cool the air back down to the desired temperature.
